I recently spent a week at Lio Villas Resort, and while my stay had its highlights, there are areas where the resort could improve to meet the standards of a typical resort experience.
The rooms are undoubtedly a standout feature. I stayed in a newly renovated room, and it was clean, modern, and well-equipped with a mini-bar, TV, and internet (though the connection was occasionally unstable—I’d recommend getting an eSIM as a backup). The staff were generally responsive and willing to help whenever I needed something, which added a personal touch to the service.
However, the resort lacks some of the amenities you’d expect, such as a gym, and the surroundings aren’t particularly inviting. The road to the resort is unpaved and can become muddy and challenging to navigate, especially after rain. Getting to El Nido Town costs 300 pesos by tricycle, but I’d highly recommend renting a scooter instead, which the hotel can arrange for you. Additionally, the lack of guests during my stay made the place feel a bit empty, which might appeal to some but could feel isolating for others.
Housekeeping was inconsistent. I had to request towels multiple times, and cleaning wasn’t done daily. On one occasion, I returned to my room at 6 PM after a day at the beach to find it untouched, with no fresh towels provided. The water pressure in the shower, toilet, and sinks was also subpar, and there were occasional issues with hot water availability.
The breakfast options were limited, with only 4-5 choices, and the coffee didn’t quite hit the mark. There were also minor inconveniences, like the absence of water glasses, face towels, and a shaving kit in the room. While pitchers for water were available at reception, having one in the room would have been more convenient.
On a positive note, the hotel can help arrange the most popular tours on the island, which is a great convenience. To elevate the guest experience further, the resort could consider investing in staff uniforms, extending pool hours (or allowing guests to use it at their convenience), and adding some ambient music around the pool area. Digital key systems and more consistent housekeeping would also go a long way in improving convenience and comfort.
Despite the shortcomings, I appreciated the efforts of the resort manager and staff to make my stay as pleasant as possible. The rooms are a strong point, and with some adjustments, Lio Villas Resort has the potential to become a more competitive option. While I believe the pricing could be slightly lower to reflect the current value, I’m optimistic that the resort will continue to improve over time.
For now, I’d rate my experience 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a good stay with a lot of promise, and I look forward to seeing how the resort evolves in the future.

Warning: Stay Away from This Hotel!
Our experience at this hotel in the Philippines was a complete nightmare.
# Dirty Rooms with a Strong Mold Smell
Upon check-in, we were given a room that was filthy and had an overwhelming smell of mold. The smell was so strong that it made it difficult to stay in the room. We immediately brought this to the staff’s attention, and they admitted that the smell was indeed bad.
# No Hot Water in the Shower
In addition to the mold issue, there was no hot water in the shower at all. After a long day of travel, we were looking forward to a proper shower, but instead, we had to deal with cold water only.
# Unhelpful and Unfriendly Staff
When we asked to change rooms, the staff argued with us for a long time before agreeing to move us. Even when they finally agreed, their attitude was cold and unwelcoming. It felt like they were doing us a favor instead of providing basic hospitality.
# Personal Items Thrown Away by Staff
One of the most upsetting incidents was when the staff threw away one of our bags, which contained a pair of shoes. This was not a mistake — it was a sealed bag that clearly wasn’t trash, yet they discarded it without any explanation.
# Difficult Access to the Hotel
The hotel is in a very inconvenient location with a long, complicated pathway that makes it extremely difficult to get in and out. This ruined the spontaneity of our trip, as every outing required a long, exhausting walk.
Overall Experience: 1/10
Save yourself the frustration and choose a better place to stay!

On arriving at lio villas we were very impressed with how beautiful it is, the restaurant area is open, the bedrooms and bathrooms are gorgeous and clean. The restaurant had limited options, especially for vegetarians which I suggest they might improve on.
It cost 300 for a trike to get to the centre of town which is quite expensive, 15 min drive. They did also charge 70 for proper milk with coffee in the morning which we thought was a bit steep. For such a high priced stay maybe proper coffee could be included with breakfast and not sachets. We were staying 1 month in the Philippines and all other hotels around the same price range served proper coffee with breakfast.
Ms Faye on reception was wonderful, she helped return jewellery that we forgot at the resort. We had got the ferry to coron and the same day that we got in touch to say we had left the items behind she was at the ferry office to get them sent on the next crossing. I received my items the very next day! What a wonderful help, she was a dream come true, thank you !

The AC in the room was not cold enough, not working well. There’s no hot water in the mornings to take a shower. We booked a king-size bed and got 2 individual beds. Also, the matress were too firm. The location is 15min to El Nido Downtown by vehicle. They charged us for bottle of waters and also for drinks that they first said “were included”. The food was not good enough.
